What is CBT?

The CBT I offer isn’t the “Compulsory Basic Training” you need to ride a motorbike. It stands for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, an evidence-based treatment that effectively addresses many emotional challenges, such as depression and anxiety disorders.

CBT is a collaborative approach between therapist and client, designed to help you identify and overcome difficulties while building resilience for the future. It’s a talking therapy that examines the behaviours, thoughts, and physical symptoms that can trap you in vicious cycles. CBT helps you break these cycles by challenging and changing your thinking patterns and actions, making your problems feel more manageable. Over time, the goal is to replace unhelpful thoughts and behaviours with more positive, constructive ones.

In our work together, we’ll focus on practical applications of what you learn in therapy. CBT is goal-oriented, so your commitment and motivation are key to achieving the desired outcomes.

Some people may feel that CBT isn’t for them, perhaps because it’s often seen as too black-and-white. But those who know me understand that I’m anything but black-and-white. If we work together, I’ll tailor the therapy to suit your unique needs. CBT has evolved significantly, with many adaptations and supportive approaches available, making it a flexible option that could work for you.

To help you visualise a CBT vicious cycle, the image you see is of a vicious cycle/a general description of what it typically looks like.

If you want to learn more about CBT, check out my blog pages. If you want to start therapy, book an appointment, I look forward to hearing from you.
