Testimonial
"I recently applied for a Trainee PWP role within the NHS and was fortunate to be invited for an interview. However, I initially struggled with confidence due to past experiences. In a previous interview for an EMHP role, I received feedback that my responses lacked depth, which led to an unsuccessful outcome. Additionally, I am from an ethnically diverse background and I felt intimidated during that interview, as none of the members of the panel appeared to look like me. This left me feeling judged and uncertain about whether the role was truly accessible to someone like me. As a result, I approached this new interview with considerable doubt.
My outlook began to shift after I spoke with Carlyn Boyce. Carlyn’s support was invaluable, and I’d like to highlight two key reasons why.
First, Carlyn, as a Black woman who grew up in a community similar to mine, has risen to a significant position as the Clinical Lead. Her success serves as a powerful reminder that people from our community can achieve their goals, regardless of background or appearance.
Second, on a personal level, Carlyn helped me prepare for my interview by conducting a mock interview. During this session, she noticed that I was trying to present myself in a way that didn’t reflect who I truly am. I was attempting to sound middle-class and overly formal to appear more ‘intelligent.’ Carlyn helped me realise that “being myself is good enough.” She encouraged me to maintain professionalism while staying true to who I am. Although this advice may seem simple, it had a profound impact on me, as I had previously believed that I needed to be someone else to succeed. With Carlyn’s guidance, I approached the interview with renewed confidence, knowing that I could be successful by being authentic.
I am pleased to share that, with Carlyn’s encouragement and advice, I successfully passed my interview and have started my journey as a Trainee PWP. While I know the road ahead will be challenging, I am now confident that it is also achievable.
For anyone considering working with Carlyn Boyce, I cannot recommend her highly enough—her impact has been truly transformative."
